Edward Benzel, M.D.

Edward C. Benzel, M.D., is the vice-chairman of the Department of Neurological Surgery, and the head of the section of Spine Disorders at The Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. Board-certified in neurological surgery, he specializes in spine biomechanics, cervical spondylosis, spinal tumors, the Chiari malformation and syringomyelia, and complex spine reconstruction surgery.

A frequent lecturer at national and international meetings, Dr. Benzel has authored 6 books, 99 chapters, 113 publications, 161 invited comments/letters/reviews and edited 11 books. Dr. Benzel is the chairman of The Council of Spine Societies and a member of numerous professional societies, including the American Paraplegia Society, and the Society of Neurological Surgeons. In addition, Dr. Benzel serves on the editorial boards of peer-reviewed publications, including Journal of Neurosurgery, Neurosurgery, Contemporary Spine Surgery, Spine, and The Spine Journal. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Benzel received his medical degree at Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. He completed his internship, residency in neurosurgery, and a fellowship in Spine Surgery and Spinal Cord Injury at Medical College of Wisconsin.
