Stephen G. Ellis, M.D.

Stephen G. Ellis, M.D., is director of the Sones Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. He also is co-director of the Invasive Cardiovascular Genebank and director of the Interventional Fellowship Training Program, also at the Cleveland Clinic. His principal clinical interests are complex coronary interventions, novel treatments for inoperable patients and studies to better understand the basis of disease.

Board-certified in internal medicine and cardiology, Dr. Ellis is a member of the American Heart Association's Scientific Council on Arteriosclerosis and Scientific Council on Clinical Cardiology, the Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions and the American College of Cardiology. He also serves on the editorial boards for numerous publications, including the American Journal of Cardiology, the Journal of Interventional Cardiology, Circulation and the American Heart Journal. Dr. Ellis has authored and co-authored more than 200 articles on interventional cardiology and cardiovascular disease for scientific journals including the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Coronary Artery Disease, Circulation and the New England Journal of Medicine.

He has also served as the principal investigator for numerous clinical studies that focus on intervention, including the RESCUE I trial, GUSTO IIb PTCA study, ERASER study, the GUARD trial and the FINESSE trial.

A graduate of the University of California (at Los Angeles) Medical School, Dr. Ellis completed his internship and residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and his fellowships at the Brigham and Women's Hospital (Cardiology) in Boston, Stanford University (Cardiology) in Stanford, California, and Emory University (Angioplasty) in Atlanta.
